Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor, with temple circuits, Khmer food, markets, cafes, museums, and a traveler-friendly town center built around early starts and slow evenings.
Best time to visit: November through February is the most comfortable period for temple days, with drier weather and cooler mornings. Hot season and rainy season can still be rewarding with earlier starts and shade breaks.
Getting around: Tuk-tuks, remorks, bicycles, private drivers, and guided tours are the main ways to reach temple sites and town districts. For Angkor, agree on routes and timings before setting out.
Local tip: Buy the right Angkor pass for your pace and avoid trying to see every major temple in one day; heat, distance, and temple fatigue are real.
